Project Brief
Offsite Manufacturing (OSM) is a process where large parts of construction can be
prefabricated in advance and then delivered to a construction site for rapid construction. In
house building this is a technique that is rarely used especially in the UK. This technique has
many benefits such as:
- Increasing speed of construction of the shell of the house and making it water-tight
- Reducing overall building costs
- Reducing onsite safety risks
- Simplifying onsite material management by taking advantage of Just In Time (JIT)
delivery and minimising the need for site storage and potential damage of
materials. It also minimises wastage due to less damage of materials.
- Decreasing labour management of staff through better planning and daily task
management, utilisation of staff, and utilisation of equipment – especially
expensive equipment to hire like cranes.
